No, seriously. I relate to this woman on so many levels. 

She was right: It wasn’t going to work out between them. Best to nip it in the bud. 

And she was nice and polite. Wasn’t angry and didn’t make a scene.

But she couldn’t look at him the same way anymore.

Political choices reflect personal morality. She was right to excuse herself, especially in the civil way she did so, before things got uncivil.
