This same shit literally happened to me and I was brought into a back room with police and everything until they checked surveillance the prejudice is real and it needs to end its 2018 why are we still doing the skin color thing cmon humanity

Honestly go fucking ham if you’re being racially profiled at a store, like no joke call district managers call corporate, make twitter posts, make them fucking squirm bc 100% of the time you are being racially profile bc uhhhh RACISM FUCKING EXISITS and if folks working loss prevention aren’t vocal about racial bias they are 100% hoping you are stealing if yr black or brown

^^^^ that last part! I worked for Walmart in my own home town and I was followed around MY OWN STORE by loss prevention. Me and the only other dark skin were followed to the back room multiple times throughout our shift.

The three employees involved were fired after Old Navy and parent company The Gap opened an investigation. The customer is filing a denial of service lawsuit.

It really feels like the only way to get these companies to own up to their shit and do the right thing is to publicly shame them so keep taking those videos and keep posting them to Facebook and Twitter. White people, that means us too. If you witness something like this happening, do something.

Giving them bad PR on social media is often MUUUUCH more effective than trying to go up the chain and report the problem to the employee’s superiors. It can disappear if it’s reported “the right way” and that’s not really a bug so much as a feature. Getting thousands of shares on a story like this on Twitter means you can get out your story the way it actually happened to you, no reframing from them.

I used to work at Old Navy, and I can tell you right now, the number on the tag of an item only says what the item is, the color, and the size. There is no way to track a specific item, just how many you have in stock in the store, or other stores. Don’t believe this bullshit for a minute, and fuck tell them to get Loss Prevention in to check the video, cause that’s their job, not the manager. We weren’t even supposed to outright accuse someone of shoplifting, only Loss Prevention can do that. And if anyone who isn’t LP follows you out of the store, record that shit, because that is a fire-able offense. They are not allowed to do that, even if they are a manager.
