Re: religion and worldbuilding, political influence and the attached moral standards it imposes to the wider culture are also important to consider. A real life example would be how, despite laws about the separation of church and state, politicians advocated by religious leaders are more likely to be elected, and in turn, pass laws that are in line with subjective religious morals (e.g. preventing divorce and homosexual marriage). Multiple religions existing in one area can butt heads for social and political influence too. Depending on the culture, religion can be practically inextricable from the country’s culture or just be treated as a subculture.
