Wow Michigan might actually pass new work requirements for Medicaid and hurt elderly people and poor people for no reason
anyway everyone, expecially Michigan residents, should call their state house rep but most importantly the governor (517-373-3400) and tell him to veto bill sb897/Medicaid work requirements
I did not know this was happening in my state. Please reblog this.
yes, it’s absolutely awful. i can’t overstate how this bill will make michigan the WORST state for healthcare.
this bill will allow rural (white) GOP districts to keep their healthcare as is (also allowing 12 of the 14 people who wrote the bill to keep it…hmmm) while mostly urban (black) poor districts will lose it. yes, it’s on purpose
the man who wrote the bill says people don’t need healthcare because “The best safety net ever invented by God is family,”
”..umm….what?
this bill forces people to work 30 hours a week in order to keep their healthcare. but it’s not that simple. what about the people who work minimum wage jobs and aren’t scheduled for a full 30 hours? they could lose their healthcare for up to a year. even states with work requirements (usually these states have the worst number of health issues..hmm i wonder why..maybe because ppl who need healthcare the most usually can’t work) have 20 hours a week requirement. not 29.
the program will cost $30 million to implement. why make a bill that is terrible to implement and costs more??
michigan’s medicaid program – Healthy Michigan – has 2.5 million users. people will die if this bill gets enacted, specifically poor, minority, elderly, and children. healthcare is a life or death issue. people will die.
please, CALL THE GOVERNOR (517-373-3400) and tell him to veto this bill no matter what. Michigan’s medicaid program is working perfectly fine, and this bill will kill people – especially the most vulnerable.
tip: tell him a personal story about how healthcare helps you or people you know. personal stories MATTER.
i called, and sent a veto request, it’s fairly simple, and even if you aren’t in michigan you can call them and tell them to veto this as it’s not required to leave your name and address.
