Update: I’ve been asked a few times why I did it. I will explain my actions in another follow-up post, and I’ll put the link here once I’m done (Yes, I can hear you groaning across the monitor. Fine I get it, but I’m writing it anyway!).
The Long Version:
I’m sorry this is a VERY long post, but if you have a few minutes, please stay for now. I feel you all should know this.
Most of you gave permission to Kyotosomo (Pierce Riola) to dub your comics. What he did not tell you is that he is monetizing them. And from what I understand after talking with some of you, none of you gave any permission to make money on your art, and he has not shared any of that profit with you or anyone else.
How do you know it is monetized?
If you watch without AdBlock, here’s how you know:
1. Yellow line in video player (usually on the left)
2. Advertisement plays before/during video
(Note – most monetized Youtube channels make ~$1 per 1000 views. The actual amount can be more, depending on a variety of factors) EDIT: According to Kyotosomo’s Tumblr response, his rate is closer to $1 per 4000 views. I see no reason to disbelieve him.
If I don’t want my comics monetized, what can we do?
If you have 10 minutes to spare, you can do at least one of these right now:
2. Report copyright infringement on each of his videos containing your artwork. If you need help finding your comic, here’s the list again: https://goo.gl/EqFK56

After you do this, he might ask you to remove the copyright strike and let him keep the videos up or remove it on his own (he won’t).
He will probably make excuses like:
“I’m doing this purely for fun”
Then why is he making money from it? Quite a lot too, if these posts are anything to go by:

“I’m doing this for charity”
Except he lied about this in the past. For example:

EDIT: I was wrong about the lack of donation. A mere two days after that last email, he donated $688 (of his hard-earned $11,000 in 2017) to AMF (https://imgur.com/rh0aPzn). So why the discrepancy between these two emails?
Or he’ll say:
“I tried to contact you but I couldn’t”

Just send him a message, and he’ll probably remove the monetization. Just know that this will not stop him from monetizing other people’s content, or re-monetizing your comics once you’ve stopped paying attention.

She dropped the strike in December 2017 after he promised to remove the video (as I’m writing this, the video is still up, and of course, still monetized). EDIT: Not anymore
Coincidentally, @skitschell received the exact same message after reporting her video last week.
Edit: Sorry, skitschell just gave me a correction. This message is from December 2017, the first time she reported her video. Like ameri-lie, she dropped the strike after Kyotosomo promised to remove the video.
As you can see, she’s reported the video again after finding it was still up.

Just wanted to say–this dude dubbed one of my comics (Incompetent Saeran) and NEVER asked for permission to do even that. When I asked him to take it down, he refused. Just checked and the comic dub is still up. Fuck this dude hardcore seriously

Here’s an example of what we call a “soft no”. Sharon turns down Steve’s offer in a way that’s meant not to insult him but never actually uses the word “no”.
Steve clearly gets the message, though, and importantly offers to leave her alone. Sharon’s comment afterwards gives him an opportunity to try again later, but he doesn’t press and respects her rejection of his company even though it’s probably hurt his feelings a bit.

I just have to add – I’ve seen interviews with Marvel people where they say that this scene demonstrates that Cap’s awkward with women and doesn’t know how to ask women out on a date. And it drives me crazy, because – as the OP says – Steve behaved perfectly here. It was a very charming, nonthreatening offer, and he accepted her rejection with good grace. You can’t help but feel that to Hollywood, the fact that she said no means he asked badly – which is exactly how I’d expect Hollywood to think, namely, the idea that men should keep pressing and pushing women until they say yes
for those who dont get it missing e was like the proto-xkit, a browser extension from the early 2010s designed to improve tumblr cause believe it or not this website used to be a lot fucking worse technically
but the thing about it was that tumblr absolutely DESPISED missing e, like i cannot overstate how livid they were at the time that someone was better at designing their website than they were. they started having these popups appear saying that missing e was like, a virus or some shit and it was malevolent and that the act of having missing e installed meant you weren’t allowed to receive support from tumblr staff.
like forget whatever happened with the original xkit guy, tumblr, as in the website, the staff behind the website itself, ACTIVELY ran missing e’s creator off the website because he was doing a better job of making their site than they were
this was what you used to get popping up if you were using missing e. all of this shit was a complete lie. additionally it was only meant to pop up if you were using missing e, but there were like 100s of instances of this appearing for people who had never even heard of missing e, and i know personally that i ticked the box several times and it KEPT popping up regardless
No, don’t forget what happened with the xkit guy, because if it’s not the tumblr staff it’s the users that will fuck over people who want to help them. Don’t forget about it.
New season of Japanese Creative profiles at new Archipel home presents artist whose work is concerned with technology and nature, most notably for designing new shells for Hermit Crabs:
AKI INOMATA is contemporary artist whose universe revolves around
creating original works with animals and living creatures. Some of her
most distinctive work includes building original “shelter” art pieces
for hermit crabs or creating pieces of material from clothes to give
them to bagworms.
We will follow her to DMM.make AKIBA, a hardware development studio that
hosts the latest 3D printers, laser cutters, among other technologies,
where INOMATA works on her designs. We will then head over to HUNCH, her
studio, before going to Terrada Art Complex, where INOMATA’s work is
showcased as part of the Asian Art Award finalists.
INOMATA will tell us more about her views on living creatures and the
relationships humans hold with their pets and animals, while on a tour a
Intermediatheque, a museum with a focus on natural history born from a
collaboration between Japan Post and Tokyo University.
