Always reblog

As a former zookeeper we would hear this a lot. “If you don’t study hard you’ll end up cleaning poop for a living.” It’s the one time we’re allowed to go off on the visitors. I once heard my boss rant for five minutes at a lady, in front of her kids, about how he had a Master’s degree, how people literally worked there for free, and how dare she judge people without bothering to know anything about them. Later that day his boss came by and said, roughly, “She told us what happened. Thanks for not throwing anything this time.”

I speak with an American accent, which you would think as an Iranian-American actor, I should be able to play any part, good, bad, what have you. But a lot of times in Hollywood, when casting directors find out you’re of Middle Eastern descent, they go, “Oh, you’re Iranian. Great. Can you say ‘I will kill you in the name of Allah?’

Maz Jobrani: Did you hear the one about the Iranian-American? (via childofweakness-blog-blog)

i do not know a SINGLE person, not even out of my friends, not even out of the most woke people on this damn site, that only likes unproblematic things. every single one of us likes something that’s fucking garbage. so some of y’all can climb down off your high horses and stop competing for the “least problematic” award honest to god.

[Reactions to a tweet of A Wrinkle In Time poster focused on the girl hero, with a a comment “This is a GREAT poster – but don’t they want little boys to see this too?”]

“If we keep teaching boys they have to be centered they will never learn to listen to anyone else’s stories.” –

Mikki Kendall

“This tweet is why so many men had brain meltdowns over Last Jedi.

Society has told them if they are not centered then it’s not for their consumption. They can’t/shouldn’t connect with it.

Stop teaching boys this bullshit message.” – @mel_thegreat

Misogyny isn’t just calling women nasty names, assaulting them, or lack of equality. It’s the devaluation of female experiences ,and stories, as being less important than men’s.

When certain Westerners, mainly Americans, insist that feminism is no longer necessary

I want them to look at the Top 10 most gender equal countries in the world based on the global gender gap index

Unless you’re from:

Iceland, Norway, Finland,  Rwanda, Sweden, Nicaragua, Slovenia, Ireland,  New Zealand, or the Philippines

You won’t be on that list.

And even then, not a single one of these countries have reached the 0 score that means the country has no gap between opportunity between female citizens and male in areas of politics, medical care, education, and economic power.

I want Americans in particular to find where they are on that list and wonder how they rank so much lower than countries like Rwanda, Nicaragua, the Philippines, South Africa, etc.

America, spoiler alert: as of 2017, you rank 49th in gender equality.

So in case you’re wondering just how much feminism you need to have measurable gender equality, you need to do better than 48 other countries :))
