“Adding little details.”

“Finishing up my contribution for the @powwowhawaii show with @thinkspace_art in February! It’s a bit darker in tone than my usual work, but I wanted to illustrate death more romantically– resting rather than ceasing to exist.”

“Close-up.”

“My contribution for the Pow! Wow! Hawaii! group show opening this week! I’ll be in town for the reception so drop on by. I’ll also be working on a mural all week long so I’ll catch you around the block. See you soon!”

There are many exhausting things about the Trump Era, but few moreso than the idea that hurting people is strong and masculine.

Hurting people is the easiest thing ever.  Proposing to solve all your problems with “we should hurt the other people involved this problem” is super obvious and not at all clever.  Insulting people and destroying things are so easy most preschoolers have mastered it.

I could insult everyone in the world right now and I wouldn’t even have to study for it.

It’s like answering every question on a math test with “who cares, numbers are for losers,” then thinking you won something because the teacher got upset.  It’s not just wrong, it’s lazy.

Making people happy, making their lives better, now that’s hard.  That’s something that requires actual toughness and courage.  It’s an uncertain, often unrewarding task, and will bring you face-to-face with the limitations of your resources and abilities.  Helping people is never a guaranteed thing, and to keep trying despite that requires real strength of character.

Maybe we could glamorize that kind of strength for once.

I think a LOT about that time Melania Trump said, essentially, ‘if my husband gets attacked he punches back ten times harder"

I think about how the ability to do that doesn’t require bravery; it’s a power play from someone used to being stronger than the people he gets in fights with

I think about how Trump has a documented history of assaulting his wives

I think about how she was probably being very, very honest, and how she probably has very, very good reasons to be aware of that character trait and share it like a warning and tread in perpetual caution herself.

Why don’t we talk about Portugal more?

They decriminalized ALL drugs. Every single one. Yes, even that one. If you get caught w. more than a 10 days supply (what ever that means) of any drug you meet in front of a Doctor, Lawyer and Social worker about drug addiction. They may or may not give you a fine but essentially there’s no penalty.

AND IT WORKED! ADDICTION RATES DROPPED. HIV RATES IN INJECTION USERS DROPPED. DEATH BY DRUG OD PLUMMETED.

Potugal has shown us that when we treat drug addiction as a medical/health issue, instead of a moral one, it is more efficient.

here’s a good article on it

Amazing what you can achieve when you stop treating addicts like criminals and start treating them like human beings

Benjamin Kelly, the district secretary for Representative Shawn Harrison, reportedly liked a tweet that referred to González as a “brown bald lesbian girl.” (Kelly has since been fired.)

González is not deterred. She’s taking calls from Demi Lovato; speaking with Anderson Cooper on live television. Overnight, she’s turned into the face of gun control, and her being a brown bald bisexual woman is not a deficit, as some might decide–instead, an incredible talisman that seems to indicate the kind of power those of us deemed powerless truly have. That despite the Trumps of the world telling minorities how worthless we are, over and over again; that QPOCs and women are not even low priority but instead targets, we will not recoil while sheepishly raising white flags.

Emma González is the portrait of empowerment, and she’s inspiring a movement that includes us all; one that is not asking for, but demanding a safety that is no longer promised or assured by current administration. And as she continues her advocacy into the March For Our Lives on March 24, it appears the NRA might have finally mets its match in a teenage girl.
