I just watched The Conjuring 2, and while it’s on my mind in a similar vein to this post, I also want to spread some appreciation for Javier Botet because GOD DAMN LOOK AT THIS SHIT

He has Marfan Syndrome, which is a rare connective tissue condition that gives him bizarrely elongated limbs and allows him to do unnatural things with his body, and he’s built quite a resume for himself appearing in horror movies

Like Doug Jones, he also appeared as three of the ghosts in Crimson Peak:

But you may have also seen him as The Crooked Man in The Conjuring 2:

Eddie’s leper in IT:

The Nina monster in all three REC movies:

Set, the God of Death in The Mummy (2017):

The titular creature in Mama:

He did motion capture work for the Xenomorph in Alien: Covenant:

And he most recently appeared in Insidious: The Last Key and the Slender Man movie!!

He’s done other more obscure horror movies too but basically this guy is adorable and inspiring and an amazing talent and I adore him 8D

Had the opportunity and fucking owned it

Imagine your niche skill is ‘my body moves in eldritch and unfathomably terrible ways’ and finding a way to make a successful career out of it

Mari Costa

(Artist Portrait Pending, enjoy some more comic art!)

First off, who are you as an artist and person?

I’m a 22 year old artist studying animation at the moment and I really like cats, DnD and period dramas.

Why did you decide to work together?
I had had a drawing injury for a few months which wasn’t going away and
still really wanted to do this project and Mari offered to help me with
it! So we formed a team and our comic was the result ^_^

What’s your story about and why did you want to tell it?

Our story is about a water creature and a water deity, Soren and Silvas,
who are competing in the Aquatic Olympics, a competition that takes
place every 100 years or so. The winner gets fame, fortune and an
increase in their magical/social standing. Soren and Silvas are
competing for more than just that however, but also the chance for who
gets to propose to the other.

What are some of your personal favorite water themed stories? (Did they have a hand in inspiring your own story?)

I’m blanking on any water themed stories, but we were (and are) going
through a sports anime phase at the moment and that really influenced
it.

Lastly, what brought you to the Cosmos and what made you want to get involved with Strange Waters?

I saw the call for submissions on tumblr and I really liked the theme.

I’m really bad at writing bad guys. If you give me, “Hey write a villain,” I will turn in a serviceable villain and he will probably say snarky things about you.

But if you tell me to write someone who is morally conflicted or someone who is doing something awful for what he thinks is a fully moral reason, that’s where I can really dig my teeth into it.

[Solas] doesn’t kick puppies. He very rarely, in fact, will even suggest something morally questionable. He might approve of it, but what he really approves of is intelligence and thoughtfulness, even if that intelligence and thoughtfulness is coupled with something that is ruthless or something that is not what you would think of as the Nice Guy Route. It’s just: “You’ve thought this through, the most important thing to do right now is eliminate these bad guys – okay, good!”  That’s the kind of thing he will approve of. But yeah, he is always the person who’s going to look for more thoughtful solutions.

If you look at his banters…. One of the things I’ve tossed out to people, since I can’t give any hard answers, is if you want to understand Solas, listen to the things that he brings up on his own.

He is one of the strongest believers in freedom of personal thought. And yeah, the Qun is one of the things that I’d say gets him angriest in the game. If you look at the few places he gets really, really angry in the game, it’s:

1)  when talking to Iron Bull [about the Qun], especially if you sacrifice the Chargers. Solas and Bull have one last banter, and Solas cuts him to the bone.
2)  it’s watching the idiot mages bind his buddy and turn his buddy into a demon.
3) and he does not like what the Wardens are doing. He does not like their plan. He thinks their plan is bad.

How Fenris confessed to Hawke in the game: “I cannot exactly put to words how strongly I feel about you, but I do. And it scares me. It has been so long since I’ve allowed myself to be vulnerable with anyone yet, here I am, wanting to share part of myself with you. You are terrifying and sincere. But I care deeply for you and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.”

How fandom portrays Fenris: “god Hawke ur an annoying piece of shit but I guess I love and tolerate you or whatever,,,,,here’s a bloody and beating heart,,,,,,,,,,”

The most angry or aggressive that Fenris ever gets is when dealing with situations that directly relate to his trauma. He is angry when dealing with slavers, frustrated when talking of his memories, agitated when he learns of Varania, infuriated when he finally gets his hands on both Danarius and Hadriana who perpetrated his suffering.

But in every other situation he is thoughtful yet not overbearing. Gives his opinion and is assertive but not forceful.

He is actually rather soft in his delivery and the point of this post is that I tire of people taking a few emotionally charged moments directly relating to him responding to circumstances that remind him of his trauma and using that as a basis of his entire personality.

And it be his own fans…..

Fenris will openly cut off his own laughter after one of Hawke’s earliest flirts, in a “that was funny- WAIT NO, I AM SERIOUS BROODY… Aw crap, there goes my mystique’ kind of way. Fenris is a thoughtful and observant dork who will laugh at Hawke “stepping in the poopy” (ACTUAL. QUOTE. from Mark of the Assassin). He just has a traumatic trigger that prompts him to get violent, and that kind of violence actually SCARES HIM.

Just remember, these are elected officials and our tax dollars are being used for this.

This is what its like serving people. People want straight answers to questions they fundamentally don’t understand. They don’t even understand the language you use. There is a very definite answer to what ‘wifi’ is, but a lot of oldies have their own understanding which is seperate from fact, but they believe to be fact. So when you try to explain it to them it gets to a point where they not only don’t understand it, but they don’t want to understand it.

These people here, its not that they don’t understand the tech at hand. Its that they simply don’t want to. And so they never will.
