You guys are forgetting about the absolute wealth of writing talent that is the scene where an asian kid is explaining to the protagonist that his older brother had committed suicide and Ernest Cline had the balls to replace the word suicide with seppuku in a completely non-sword related death.

everything about this shitty book that i litetally judged entirely based on the cover is all the trashy, insensitive, ignorant, culturally appropriating, white superiority power fantasy bullshit i imagined it to be. the genuinely bad writing is dirt icing on the garbage cake.
